Why we refuse to review just one genre

Why we refuse to review just one genre

March 31, 2026 · Klara Vondráček

People sometimes ask why we don't just specialize. Pick puzzle games, become the puzzle site. It'd probably be easier. But we've found that jumping between genres keeps us honest as reviewers.

When you only play one kind of game, your standards drift. Everything starts to look great compared to everything else in that narrow lane. Bouncing from a strategy game to a cozy simulator to an arcade racer resets our eyes.

It's also just more fun, and that shows in the writing. We're more excited about a guide when we've been genuinely surprised by a game outside our usual comfort zone.

So the catalog will keep hopping around. If your favorite genre isn't covered yet, it probably will be — we get there eventually.
